मोची की व्यथा ( cobbler’s agony) by Lalchand Rahi

Similar to torn shoes

(his) Life is to sew or mend

He (cobbler) cuts the leather

He never picks pocket (rob) or

cuts anybody’s throat for money.

Before polishing shoes

He hits two nails

Just for two rupees

but the customer gives one rupee

and moves foreward

hammering nails into his (cobbler’s)

chest.

in case of not getting full wages

He screams

at the upper castes who are on their

way
weeping and hopelessly

he murmers

‘Hey Ram

How many nails will I have to bear

(on my chest) today

till everning?’
