Neelam: यह “स्वागत” रेस्टोरेंट बहुत अच्छा है। खाना भी स्वादिष्ट है। Neelam: This “Swagat” restaurant is very nice. The food is also delicious.
नेहा: ठीक है, मुझे आज हिंदुस्तानी खाना खाने को मन है। Neha: Yes, I want to have Indian food today.
नीलम: ठीक है। वेटर को बुलाता हूँ। Neelam: Alright. Let me call the waiter.
नीलम(वेटर से): आज का स्पेशल क्या है? Neelam (to the waiter): What is today’s special?
वेटर: सर, आज का स्पेशल पनीर डोसा है। हमारे पास और कुछ नहीं है। Waiter: Sir, today’s special is paneer dosa. We don’t have anything else.
नेहा: बहुत बढ़िया! मुझे डोसा खाने का मन था। Neha: Great! I wanted to have dosa.
नीलम: मुझे तो डोसा पसंद नहीं। मुझे पास्ता या मोमोस पसंद है। Neelam: I don’t like dosa. I prefer pasta or momos.
नेहा: कोई बात नहीं! आज डोसा ही खाओ। Neha: No problem! Just eat dosa today.
दोनों डोसा खाते हैं। Both eat dosa.
नीलम: बहुत अच्छा डोसा है। मुझे मालूम नहीं था कि पनीर डोसा बहुत स्वादिष्ट होता है। Neelam: The dosa is very good. I didn’t know that paneer dosa is very delicious.
नेहा: डोसा भी स्वादिष्ट होता है और इडली भी। यह बहुत सेहतमंद भी होता है। Neha: Dosa is delicious and so is idli. It is also very healthy.
नीलम: हाँ! तुम ठीक कह रही हो। Neelam: Yes! You are right.
नेहा: ठीक है तो अब बिल तुम दे दो । Neha: Okay, now you pay the bill.
नीलम: अरे! मैं तो अपना पर्स घर पर भूल गई। Neelam: Oh! I forgot my purse at home.
नेहा: कोई बात नहीं! मैं जानती थी इसलिए मैं तुम्हारा पर्स लायी हूँ। Neha: No problem! I knew it, so I brought your purse.
दोनों हँसती हैं। Both laugh.

Props Needed

  1. Printed Menu Cards: Include simple options like pizza, pasta, tea, coffee, etc., to simulate the restaurant experience.
  2. Plates and Cups: Mock dishes or cups to represent the food and drinks ordered.
  3. Notepad and Pen: For the “waiter” to take the order.
  4. Cash or Toy Currency: To act out paying the bill.
  5. Table Setup: A small table with chairs to mimic a restaurant or café setting.
  6. Bill Receipt: A simple paper with a handwritten or printed “bill” for realism.
  7. Props for Food: Plastic or paper replicas of pizza, pasta, and tea to add to the immersion.

Your turn:

Create a role-play at a restaurant with your partner in Hindi, including English translation. Each person should have at least 6-7 sentences. Ask questions about the food and menu, order food, and give compliments.

Day One (Monday) 

  • Begin by practicing the given role-play by me with your partner to build confidence and understanding.
  • Next, collaborate with your partner to create your own unique role-play using an AI tool.
  • The role-play must be written in Hindi (no transliteration) and should include 5-6 sentences per partner to ensure a balanced dialogue.

Day Two (Wednesday) 

  • Together as a class, we will read your role-plays aloud and analyze them.
  • We’ll identify areas for improvement, discuss what feels authentic, and refine any phrases or ideas that may need adjustment.
  • This will also be a great opportunity to discuss commonly used phrases and vocabulary that appear in the dialogues.

Homework

  • Practice your customized role-play thoroughly with your partner to prepare for the presentation.

Day Three: Friday: Oral Presentation (20 Points)

  • You and your partner will perform your role-play in front of the class.
  • Important: Memorize your lines—reading from notes, papers, or laptops is not allowed.
  • Bring the role-play to life by adding expression and acting skills. The performance should feel natural and engaging.

  2. Act natural.
  3. Ask your friend to go to a certain restaurant.
  4. Ask two questions related to food.
  5. Ask for the menu and today’s special.
  6. Order food.
  7. Praise or not praise the food (your thoughts).
  8. Pay the bill (one question).
  9. Say goodbye.
